It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Queen Elizabeth the Second, our longest reigning monarch and a fixture in all our lives. However much anticipated, such an event comes as a shock; particularly just two days after the Queen was seen performing one of her most important duties and appeared to be in such good spirits.

Our group sends its condolences to the Royal Family, who must deal with their personal, deeply felt, loss while performing their Royal and Constitutional duties.

We all remember Cllr Mike Biggin, then Mayor, welcoming the Queen on her last visit to Warrington in 2012 to open the Orford Jubilee Hub, a result of cross-party cooperation, and seeing Warrington at its best.

Many members of our group have personal memories of the Queen going back to her childhood, coronation and on numerous royal occasions since.

The death of a much-loved monarch inevitably coincides with the accession of a successor. Grief is mixed with anticipation.

We were pleased to see the excellent turnout both at the Town Hall and in parishes such as Lymm for the proclamation of King Charles the Third's accession to the throne. However, this celebration was short lived while the nation continues to mourn the loss of our much-loved Queen.

Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this very difficult time and are pleased to see the lead given by our Queen continued by the succeeding generations.
