Liberal Democrats welcome Forge car park improvements
Peter Walker, Liberal Democrat Borough Councillor for Stockton Heath, has welcomed the preliminary clearance of the Forge car park prior to its planned refurbishment. Tenders for the work have gone in but will have to be approved by Warrington Borough Council before the full job can get underway.
Peter says: I am pleased to see that the disused toilet block has now been demolished and the land cleared ready for an extension to this busy car park. This is a step in the right direction, but we are going to have to be patient a bit longer before the planned refurbishment is actually started.
I am still pushing for electric vehicle charging points to be installed. There are none in south Warrington except at Lymm truck stop. Although funding for this may not be achieved in time, officers have agreed with my proposal that electric cable channels should be put in as part of the work. This means the Forge will be ready to install charging points quickly as soon as money does become available.
There should be funding for this from Central Government if it is serious about prohibiting the sale of new internal combustion powered vehicles after 2030.
