Cllr Ryan Bate, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Warrington South, has written to local MP Andy Carter asking for his support in requesting Dominic Cummings to resign.

PPC Cllr Ryan Bate (Warrington Liberal Democrats)Dear Andy,

Can I start by thanking you for your efforts over the last ten weeks. I know from our conversations that you have been working hard to support constituents across Warrington South in these challenging times. Many other people have also played their part during our response to Covid-19: NHS and social care workers who have acted selflessly to try and save lives, families and communities, my colleagues in education who have kept schools open to key workers' children, food retail staff who have worked day in, day out; and many more people who have gone above and beyond.

The overwhelming majority of the public have played their part - they have stayed at home, protected the NHS and done their bit to stop the spread of this awful virus. In the face of this service and sacrifice, all of these people are now struggling to understand why the Prime Minister is defending his aide Dominic Cummings. For all the grasping at loopholes and excuses which Boris Johnson and his ministerial colleagues have done, I am sure that most people would agree with me that Mr Cummings' actions were unacceptable, irresponsible and hypocritical.

Many of your Conservative parliamentary colleagues, together with the Daily Mail and the Daily Mirror (rare bedfellows, I'm sure you'll agree) are now calling on Mr Cummings to resign, or for Boris Johnson to show some leadership and sack him. I am writing to ask you to join those voices demanding that Downing Street do the right thing. I am sure the people of Warrington would agree.

Best wishes…
